Core Team Approach

Approach

The Team Approach, a trademark of craniofacial evaluation and treatment, adds a new dimension to the success of operative salyer-india-other-010procedures and final results. The entire craniofacial complex increases in size as a child grows.  Knowing the growth patterns of individual syndromes can not only improve surgical planning by identifying critical periods when surgery may be indicated, but can also help identify areas of the head and face that may require surgery later.  The dental structure is often involved in the reconstruction and maxillary and mandibular abnormalities require a close analysis of airway, e.g. hemifacial microsomia and Robin sequence with or without external ear abnormalities.   Speech, eye placement and vision are often affected.  The psychologist and social worker ensure that the time for surgery is optimal and provide counseling and support for the patient and the family.

The technical portions of craniofacial reconstruction surgery include intracranial approach to skull and facial reconstruction.  This provides dramatic simultaneous reconstruction of form and function in various cases that could not previously be corrected.  Remodeling of the skull can be performed to reshape where necessary and increase skull area where necessary, allowing more normal growth and development and providing minimal residual scarring.

The model is based on proven experience in Dallas of creating a Dedicated Craniofacial multidisciplinary team that treated thousands of patients from 75 countries and all 50 states in the US providing successful treatment results for children with major deformities.  The successful outcome of this Center led to the creation of a Dedicated Pediatric hospital in Dallas and we want to proliferate that result to help children.  The World Craniofacial Foundation has access to the leading experts in this field who can provide a unique educational opportunity in our designated Centers in developing countries globally.
