Nahuel – Argentina

Nahuel is an 8-year old patient with a diagnosis of bilateral cleft lip and palate. He was first operated on in 2001, when he underwent primary cheiloplasty and nasal reconstruction, followed by a palatoplasty. He developed a palatal fistula in the post–operative period. He has VPI (velopharyngeal insufficiency ), with hypernasal speech, recurrent ear infections, and feeding problems as well. He will need a closure of the palatal fistula and palatal lengthening. He also needs speech therapy and orthodontic treatment.
Nahuel comes from a very poor background and lives with his family in the Buenos Aires suburbs. He has no health insurance coverage nor any kind of funding for his treatment. We would love to treat Nahuel at the Buenos Aires Craniofacial Center if we are able to obtain funding.
