In early January 2008, a one year old boy flew from the Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East to Phoenix, Arizona, for emergency craniofacial surgery at the Barrow Craniofacial Center. Born with a form of severe, multiple craniosynostoses called “cloverleaf” skull, he suffered from hydrocephalus, and his brain was outgrowing the limited space afforded by fused skull sutures. In the space of 10 days, Joshua underwent four life-saving surgeries. Today, Joshua is back in Oman living with his family. He is a happy child who continues to grow, develop, and make up for the developmental delays that resulted from his condition. The WCF was privileged to pay the costs of lodging and meals during his five month stay in Arizona.
