Joanna, the daughter of a fried chicken vendor in Bacolod City, was born with a severe facial cleft. On August 20, Dr. Bernard Tansipek of the Philippine General Hospital craniofacial center transformed Joanna’s face, giving her a smile worthy of her hometown’s nickname – “the city of smiles”. Palatoplasty and further nose reconstruction are planned for next year. The WCF is privileged to have helped Joanna’s family with expenses during their stay in Manila.
