Gabriela
Mexico
Gabriela, who is 14, was born with frontonasal malformation: her eyes are very wide-set and her nose is misformed. Brought to the attention of the WCF by an American mission worker, Gabby’s family is poor and cannot afford the specialized services she needs. The WCF is working with the WCF partner craniofacial program in Mexico City to have Gabby’s condition surgically corrected. Reconstructive surgery will involve bringing her eyes closer together and creating a more normally shaped nose. Gabby is waiting eagerly and hopes her procedure can be scheduled soon.
UPDATE: The picture above features Gabriela after she underwent surgery in May 2010 to correct her hypertelorism (abnormally wide-set eyes). Funding for Gabriela’s surgery was graciously supported by the Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation. Her nasal reconstruction is scheduled for December 2010.
