John Mark A. is a 9-year old boy who lives in Quezon City in the Philippines. His father is deceased, and his mother supports John Mark and his three older siblings by working as a laundry woman. John Mark has been diagnosed with a nasoethmoidal meningocoele, or pocket of brain tissue protruding through a weakness in the skull. He needs surgery to correct his condition.
